This work explores thirty pieces of misinformation—some of a recent vintage, others held as self-evident for generations—in Indian history, striving to distinguish the proverbial wheat from the chaff.
In an age of multiple high-reach soapboxes, such myths have become easier than ever to propagate. I have only addressed thirty such, but there are many more. These, however, should be a good starting point for the inquiring mind.
Contrary to popular belief, not all misinformation is rooted in malice or propaganda. Some of the most dearly held myths simply stem from a genuine lack of awareness. My work attempts to take an objective, nonpartisan look at some of those and make history palatable in the process.
